Estimate molded fiberglass grating panel quantities
Updated
Divide the required grating area by the selected panel area, then round up to a whole panel. Add an allowance if your project needs one. The result is an area-based minimum for molded grating; the finished panel layout, cutouts and bearing direction can increase the order quantity.
How the panel estimate is calculated
Adjusted area = required area × (1 + allowance ÷ 100). Panel quantity = adjusted area ÷ panel area, rounded up. The allowance is a percentage you choose; it is not a factory-recommended cutting loss. “Area above project area” includes both that allowance and the surplus from rounding up to whole panels. It is not a measured waste quantity.
Panel area comes from the printed dimensions of the selected molded-grating catalog row. The calculation uses the original dimensions before display rounding, so a nominal feet label may differ slightly from the area obtained by multiplying that label. Catalog dimensions are confirmed in the quote and submittal drawings.
Use grating sizes, weights and open area to review the full catalog, or narrow the choices with the specification finder.
Check the cutting layout before placing the order
- List each finished piece with its length, width, quantity and cutouts. Total area alone does not show whether those pieces fit a panel.
- Show the supporting edges and bearing direction. A piece that fits after rotation may not meet the intended support arrangement.
- Account for cut width, edge finishing and any unusable offcuts when preparing the cutting plan.
- Review the molded grating range, cutting guidance and installation details with the drawing.
To estimate the weight of the material in the schedule, use the grating weight calculator. Add the layout and quantities to a quote request; the ordering guide explains the information needed for delivery planning.
Frequently asked questions
Does the panel count optimize my cutting layout?
No. It compares areas and rounds up to whole panels. Different piece shapes, support directions, saw cuts and offcut reuse can change the actual quantity. Use a dimensioned cutting plan to finalize the order.
Why does this quantity calculator use molded panels?
The molded catalog rows list panel dimensions for each specification. Pultruded grating needs the required panel dimensions and bearing-bar direction stated in the project request; a catalog maximum size is not a standard order size. Use the pultruded product range to prepare that request.
