2" Thick Molded Fiberglass Grating, 2" Square Mesh
Updated
2 inch fiberglass grating is the deepest of the three common US molded depths, for loads and spans that 1-1/2" grating cannot carry. Strongrate's catalog lists a 2" × 2" (51 × 51 mm) square mesh 2" (50 mm) deep at 4.4–4.8 lb/ft² (21.5–23.5 kg/m²) and 78% open area. It is not one of the DNV-listed models.
Notes
- 1Values as printed in the factory catalog (2023).
What panel sizes are available?
Strongrate's catalog lists 5 ft × 13.12 ft (1524 × 4000 mm); 4 ft × 12 ft (1220 × 3660 mm); 4 ft × 8 ft (1220 × 2440 mm); 3 ft × 10 ft (921 × 3050 mm) for the 2" deep, 2" square mesh. Send your layout or drawings, and the weight you design for, with the quote request. Sizes and weights of every product are compared on fiberglass grating sizes, weight and open area.
How much load can 2" molded grating carry?
Read the deflection at your clear span in the catalog tables below, for uniform and concentrated loads at ambient temperature. Halve the loads for impact. If the 2" table still falls short, compare 2" pultruded T-bar grating; pultruded grating is marketed as about twice as stiff as molded. Strongrate publishes no vehicle-load rating, so do not use these tables where wheels cross; see trench covers and drain grates.

How to read span, load and deflection columns: fiberglass grating load tables.
Which resins and surfaces can you order?
Strongrate’s catalog lists fire-retardant vinyl ester, isophthalic, food-grade isophthalic and orthophthalic resin for molded grating, with a concave (meniscus) or gritted top, or a solid cover with a checker or grit finish. Resins and temperature limits are compared on molded fiberglass grating.
How is 2" molded grating quoted and shipped?
Made in Nantong, China, and shipped from China. Full containers and project quantities are quoted factory-direct; orders under about 500 sq ft, or needed in under 3 weeks, are referred to US stocking importers. Prices are quoted per project: see fiberglass grating price per square foot, add hold-down clips, and request a quote.
Frequently asked questions
Is 2" molded grating on Strongrate’s DNV type approval?
No. The DNV certificate lists four molded models, at 1", 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" deep. Strongrate’s catalog rates its resin systems ASTM E84 Class 1; ask for the fire test report for 2" grating with your quote request.
Is 2" square-mesh grating the same as heavy-duty molded grating?
No. Strongrate’s catalog marks 2" and deeper versions of its 1-1/2" square mesh as heavy duty (HD), with thicker bars: at 2" deep it lists 8.2 lb/ft² (40.0 kg/m²) and 56% open area, against 4.4–4.8 lb/ft² (21.5–23.5 kg/m²) and 78% for the 2" mesh. Compare both load tables before choosing.
Should I use 2" molded or pultruded grating for a long span?
Compare both load tables at your span and deflection limit. Pultruded grating is marketed as about twice as stiff as molded; see pultruded fiberglass grating and molded vs pultruded fiberglass grating.
