2" T-Bar Pultruded Fiberglass Grating

Updated

Strongrate's catalog lists two 2" (50 mm) T-bar pultruded grating types: T-3320, 33% open at 4.2 lb/ft² (20.3 kg/m²), and T-5020, 50% open at 3.2 lb/ft² (15.7 kg/m²). T-5020 is DNV-listed model T5020, which in vinyl ester has an ASTM E84-19a flame spread index of 20 and smoke-developed index of 300.

Which 2" T-bar types does Strongrate list?

On a T-bar, the wide top flanges form the walking surface and the openings are the gaps between them, so T-3320, with closer bars, has the smaller openings and the higher weight. T-5020 is the type DNV lists as T5020. Panels run up to 5 ft × 20 ft (1524 × 6100 mm), with the bearing bars along the panel length.

How much load can 2 inch T-bar fiberglass grating carry?

Find your clear span, then read deflection under your design load. Typical pedestrian loads are 50–65 psf (2.4–3.1 kPa), and common deflection limits are 3/8" (9.5 mm) or L/120 for comfort and 1/4" (6.4 mm) or L/200 for a firmer feel. Halve tabulated loads for impact or dynamic conditions.

If a shallower panel works, 1" I-bar grating or 1-1/2" I-bar grating saves depth and weight; also compare 2" molded grating at the same span. How to read the columns: fiberglass grating load tables.

Strongrate's catalog presents its T-bar types as a pedestrian series with no vehicle rating, so do not use 2" T-bar where wheels or forklifts cross. For vehicle areas see trench covers and drain grates.

What does the DNV certificate say about T-bar model T5020?

DNV-listed pultruded T-bar model T5020: what the certificate states

As listed on the certificate, which covers fire performance only, not load capacity.

Notes

  1. 1The approval covers fire-technical properties of the six listed models only, not structural strength, and acceptance is case by case.
  2. 2Bar depth and open area are not stated on the certificate.
  3. 3Result as listed on DNV certificate TAF0000191 Rev. 1 (ASTM E84-19a); applies to this model only.
  4. 4As stated on the certificate; acceptance for a given location is case by case.

FSI 20 is within the 25 that US specifications call Class 1 or Class A, and SDI 300 is within the 450 building-code limit. The results apply to T5020 in vinyl ester. More on ASTM E84 Class 1 fire rating.

Which resins and surfaces are offered at 2"?

Fire-retardant vinyl ester (VEFR, up to 230°F (110°C)), isophthalic polyester (IFR, up to 176°F (80°C)) or food-grade isophthalic polyester (FG); the DNV-listed T5020 is vinyl ester. Tops are corrugated, gritted or smooth, with solid covers in checker or grit finish. Chemical resistance by resin is on pultruded fiberglass grating.

How do you order 2" T-bar grating?

Made in Nantong, China, and shipped from China. Full containers and project quantities are quoted factory-direct; orders under about 500 sq ft, or needed in under 3 weeks, are referred to US stock. See the fiberglass grating price per square foot basis or request a quote.

Frequently asked questions

Is Strongrate model T5020 a 2" deep T-bar?

Yes, according to Strongrate's catalog, which lists T-5020 at 2" (50 mm) deep and 50% open. The DNV certificate itself states neither depth nor open area.

When should I choose 2" T-bar over 1-1/2" I-bar grating?

When the 1-1/2" I-bar load table misses your design load or deflection limit at your clear span, or when you want a lower open area, such as the 33% of T-3320. Compare both catalog tables at the same span.

Is vinyl ester T-bar grating suited to chemical plants?

Strongrate’s catalog rates the corrosion resistance of its vinyl ester system excellent, its highest rating. Its chemical-resistance chart rates 76 chemical environments by resin; check your chemical, concentration and temperature there, and test in the actual environment.
